The Kansas City Power and Light Building is an Art Deco skyscraper in Downtown Kansas City, Missouri, completed in 1931 to designs by Hoit, Price and Barnes. Kansas City Power and Light president Joseph F. Porter had it built to promote new jobs downtown. It was the tallest building west of the Mississippi River until the Space Needle was completed in 1962, and its iconic lantern has become a recognizable emblem of the city. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
