Kenilworth Castle stands in the town of Kenilworth, Warwickshire, England, and is managed by English Heritage, though much of it is in ruins. Founded in the 1120s around a Norman great tower, it was enlarged by King John in the early 13th century and later remodelled by John of Gaunt in the latest perpendicular style. Huge water defences, created by damming local streams, make it one of two major water-castles in Britain, alongside Caerphilly Castle.
