Kurovice Castle, a fortified house in Kurovice in the Kroměříž District of the Czech Republic, represents one of the most significant surviving fortresses of the lower nobility in the country. Though wooden structures likely dominated the 13th century, the oldest extant walls date to the first half of the 15th century. The rectangular core measures 30 by 20 metres and originally comprised a three-level tower and single-story palace, defended by a double protective wall with wooden bridge spanning two moats that persisted until the 20th century. The castle underwent major reconstruction by the Vrchlabsky family between the 16th and 17th centuries, with work initiated in the second half of the 16th century by Joachym Zoubek ze Zdetina, whose coat of arms survives in a ceiling vault. Václav Eusebius Lobkowicz completed the third floor in a later phase. Blending Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque elements, the castle reflects the architectural evolution of its era. After serving as residential flats in the 20th century, restoration began in 1982, though efforts were interrupted in 1990. It is now designated a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
