In the seaside village of Hermanville-sur-Mer, Normandy, La Bluette stands as a rare early work by Hector Guimard, the celebrated French architect of Art Nouveau. Built in 1899 for Parisian lawyer Prosper Grivelle, this villa exemplifies the flowing, organic forms characteristic of the Art Nouveau style, and remains one of only a few monuments of this movement surviving in Calvados. Now classified as a historical monument, La Bluette documents an important chapter in Guimard's prolific career and testifies to the presence of avant-garde architectural taste among the belle époque bourgeoisie.
