La Madeleine, formally the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene, is a Catholic parish church on Place de la Madeleine in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. Planned by Louis XV as the focal point of Rue Royal, it was redesigned in the Neoclassical style under Napoleon Bonaparte and completed as a church in 1842. Corinthian columns surround all four sides, and the interior holds domed-ceiling frescoes and monumental sculptures by François Rude and Carlo Marochetti. It is a classified historical monument.
