Les Mamelles Lighthouse stands on the higher of two prominent hills in Ouakam, near Cap Vert—Africa's westernmost point—on the outskirts of Dakar, Senegal. Completed in 1864 and rising 16 meters, this strategically positioned lighthouse has earned recognition as "one of the world's great lighthouses, guiding ships around the western tip of Africa." Its commanding location on the Cap-Vert peninsula made it essential to maritime navigation in one of the world's most significant sea routes.
