Demolished or destroyed.
The Lighthouse of Alexandria, or Pharos, stood in Alexandria, Egypt, and was built by the Ptolemaic Kingdom during the reign of Ptolemy II Philadelphus (280–247 BC), with the architect given as Sostratus of Cnidus. Estimated at least 100 metres tall, it was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and for many centuries one of the tallest man-made structures. Earthquakes between AD 956 and 1303 left it a ruin, and its last stones were used in 1480 to build the Citadel of Qaitbay on the site.
