The Longhua Temple, a Buddhist temple in Shanghai's Xuhui District, is dedicated to the Maitreya Buddha and represents the city's largest ancient temple complex. Though most of its current structures are later reconstructions, the temple preserves the architectural design of a Song dynasty (960–1279) Chan School monastery, maintaining traditional Chinese architectural principles. Recognized as a Shanghai Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a National Key Buddhist Temple in the Han Chinese area, the Longhua Temple stands as a significant historical and religious landmark that reflects centuries of Buddhist practice and architectural continuity in Shanghai.
