The Ludwigskirche, formally the Catholic Parish and University Church of St. Louis, stands in Munich, Germany, and was begun in 1844 to designs by Friedrich von Gärtner and Leo von Klenze. It is a monumental church in the Rundbogenstil, a Romanesque Revival style marked by round arches, and it holds the second-largest altar fresco in the world. The building strongly influenced church architecture, train stations and synagogues in Germany and the United States.
