Built in 1948 in the Mülheim district of Cologne, the Luther-Notkirche is a church designed by Otto Bartning, a pioneering modernist architect. The structure represents postwar German reconstruction, erected during the period of material scarcity and spiritual renewal that followed World War II. Recognized as an architectural heritage monument in North Rhine-Westphalia, the building exemplifies Bartning's approach to ecclesiastical design, which sought to create functional, theologically meaningful spaces with limited resources—a central concern of his work during Germany's rebuilding era.
