The Luxembourg Palace stands at 15 Rue de Vaugirard in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. Built from 1615 to 1645 to designs by Salomon de Brosse as a royal residence for the regent Marie de' Medici, it was refashioned from 1799 to 1805 by Jean-François Chalgrin as a legislative building and later enlarged by Alphonse de Gisors. It has housed the upper house of French legislatures since the Consulate and is today the seat of the Senate of the Fifth Republic.
