Lyon Cathedral, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, stands on Place Saint-Jean in the 5th arrondissement of Lyon, France, and is the seat of the Archbishop of Lyon. Begun in 1180 on the ruins of a 6th-century church and completed in 1476, it blends Romanesque and Gothic architecture with a relatively consistent character, and Jacques de Beaujeu is credited as its architect. The building is a classified historical monument and, since 1998, part of the UNESCO World Heritage site covering central Lyon.
