Manakkodam Lighthouse stands beside Andhakaranazhy beach in Alappuzha district, Kerala, near Cherthala. Its 33.8-metre square-section concrete tower was inaugurated on 1 August 1979, and the area had no lights before then. The light was switched from an incandescent lamp to metal halide in 1998 and flashes twice every ten seconds.
