Marqués de Riscal is a Spanish winery founded in 1858 by Camilo Hurtado de Amézaga, 6th Marquess of Riscal, in Elciego, Rioja Alavesa, built on inherited vineyards. The company pioneered Rioja production and later expanded into white wine from Rueda. In 2006, the historic wineries were redeveloped into the City of Wine, a leisure and production complex anchored by the Marqués de Riscal Hotel, a striking contemporary structure designed by architect Frank Gehry and inaugurated by King Juan Carlos I in 2003. The hotel stands as an emblematic landmark of the modernized estate, which now integrates traditional cellars with state-of-the-art facilities.
