Mather Tower is a Neo-Gothic, terra cotta-clad high-rise at 75 East Wacker Drive in Chicago, Illinois, beside the Chicago River. Completed in 1928 and briefly the city's tallest building, it stands 159 metres high. Chicagoans sometimes call it "The Inverted Spyglass" for its unusual form: an 18-story octagonal tower rising above a 24-story rectangular base. Its needle-like profile was encouraged by the 1923 Chicago Zoning Ordinance's setback provisions.
