Perched above the village of Brezová pod Bradlom in Slovakia, the Mausoleum of Milan Rastislav Štefánik is an Art Deco tumulus designed by Dušan Jurkovič to honor the Slovak politician, diplomat, aviator, and astronomer. Constructed in travertine, this monumental earthwork spans 96 metres long and 70 metres wide, with a lower terrace terminated at its corners by fire chambers and an upper terrace crowned by four 12.5-metre-high obelisks. These obelisks commemorate both the four victims of the plane crash that took Štefánik's life and the four countries in which he served, making the structure one of Jurkovič's most celebrated architectural achievements.
