The Bilbao Metro is a rapid transit system serving the city of Bilbao and Greater Bilbao in Biscay, Spain, designed by Norman Foster and inaugurated in 1995. The network comprises three lines—the first two forming a connected "Y" shape that traverses both banks of the Ibaizabal River before merging southward, and Line 3 connecting eastern neighbourhoods—all converging at Zazpikaleak/Casco Viejo station. Operating on metre gauge across 51 kilometres with 48 stations as of 2021, it is Spain's third-busiest metro system. The metro integrates with multiple transit modes including tram, commuter rail services, and long-distance train networks. Line 1 and 2 opened first, partly replacing an Euskotren suburban railway dating to 1887, with Line 2 added in 2002 and Line 3 launching in 2017 under joint Euskotren operation.
