The Metropolitan and Primatial Cathedral Basilica of St. Tecla stands in the highest part of Tarragona, Spain, and serves as the seat of its archdiocese. Construction began around 1171 on a site that once held a Roman temple of imperial worship and later a main mosque, continuing through the 13th and 14th centuries until its solemn consecration in 1331. It is a prominent example of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic art in Catalonia, notable for its basilical plan, chevet, and porticative cloister with richly sculpted capitals.
