Monticello is a plantation just outside Charlottesville in Albemarle County, Virginia, and the primary residence of Thomas Jefferson. Its main house is Neoclassical, built on principles pioneered by Andrea Palladio and reworked by Jefferson over much of his presidency. Set on a peak in the Southwest Mountains, the estate is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, shared with the nearby University of Virginia, also designed by Jefferson.
