The Municipal Theatre of Jyväskylä, designed by Finnish architect Alvar Aalto and completed in 1982, serves as the principal theatre for the city of Jyväskylä. Though the theatre company itself was founded in 1961, Aalto's building represents the physical realization of the city's cultural ambitions more than two decades later, bringing together his distinctive modernist aesthetic with the functional requirements of a civic performance venue.
