Located at 40 Ocean Road in Narragansett, Rhode Island, the Narragansett Pier Life Saving Station was built in 1888 by the renowned architectural firm McKim, Mead & White during the height of Narragansett Pier's popularity as a summer resort. The distinctive structure features a roughly oblong plan with a semicircular north end and a steep slate roof that curves dramatically along the building's contours. Originally designed to house a lifesaving station, the building fulfilled that purpose from 1888 until 1946, when it was converted to a restaurant in the 1960s—a change that brought significant alterations, including a large dining addition and the leveling of the boat storage area's floor. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
