The National Building Museum, a private nonprofit created by an act of Congress in 1980, occupies the former Pension Building at 401 F Street NW in Washington, D.C. Montgomery C. Meigs designed the brick building, completed in 1887, which is an important early large-scale example of Renaissance Revival architecture. Its high-columned Great Hall hosts temporary exhibitions. The building was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1985.
