The National Mosque of Malaysia stands in Kuala Lumpur, a modern reinforced concrete mosque completed in 1965. Its 16-pointed star main roof is likened to an open umbrella, a reference to the tropics, and its 73-metre minaret has a cap resembling a folded umbrella. The folded concrete plates of the roof allow the large spans of the main gathering hall. It is recognised as a national historic building of Malaysia.
