The Natural History Museum stands in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, London, and is a Grade I listed building designed in the Romanesque Revival style by Alfred Waterhouse, with the landmark building built and opened by 1881. Its main frontage is on Cromwell Road, and it is one of three major museums on Exhibition Road in South Kensington. Its ornate architecture is sometimes called a cathedral of nature, and it houses some 80 million specimens across five main collections.
