The New Castle of Manzanares el Real, also called the Castle of los Mendoza, is a stone palace-fortress in Manzanares el Real, Madrid, Spain, beside the Santillana reservoir at the foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama. Architect Juan Guas began construction in 1475 on a Romanesque-Mudéjar hermitage, building it as a residential palace for the House of Mendoza near an older fortress that was abandoned once the new castle was complete. It now houses a museum of Spanish castles and a collection of tapestries.
