The Piața Sfatului Orthodox Church in Brașov is a neo-Byzantine structure dedicated to the Dormition of the Theotokos, built to replace a small chapel that had occupied the citadel since 1829. Archbishop Miron Romanul laid its cornerstone in 1895, and his successor Ioan Mețianu dedicated the completed church in 1899. Measuring 26.6 by 12.3 meters, the building features a central dome and bell tower characteristic of Byzantine Revival architecture. A spire was added later but collapsed in the 1940 Vrancea earthquake and was reconstructed in 1973. The ornate carved and gilt iconostasis was painted in 1898, while the interior murals date to 1937 and have been restored multiple times since. The church's prominent placement on the main square represented a significant symbolic achievement for Brașov's Romanian community, marking their advancement from the peripheral St. Nicholas Church into a traditionally Saxon civic space.
