Standing on Mahatma Gandhi Road in the Fort district of south Mumbai, the New India Assurance Building is a 1937 Art Deco office structure designed by the architectural firm Master, Sathe and Bhuta, with artistic direction by N. G. Pansare. Built in reinforced concrete for the insurance company founded by Sir Dorabji Tata in 1919, the building exemplifies the Indo-Deco style that emerged in Mumbai's interwar commercial architecture. Its vertical emphasis and sculptural programme showcase how the Art Deco aesthetic was adapted for Indian-owned financial institutions during this period. Situated near Flora Fountain and adjacent to other 1930s office blocks, it stands as a prominent landmark within the city's historic business district and is recognized as a key commercial example within Mumbai's Victorian Gothic and Art Deco Ensembles, inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2018.
