Notre-Dame d'Amiens, the Cathedral of Our Lady of Amiens, is a Catholic cathedral and the seat of the Bishop of Amiens, standing on a slight ridge overlooking the River Somme in Amiens, northern France. Built almost entirely between 1220 and about 1270, it has an unusual unity of style for a Gothic cathedral and is an early example of High Gothic and Rayonnant architecture. Robert of Luzarches is named as its architect. Its builders sought to maximise interior space and light, making it the largest cathedral in France by volume. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981.
