Old Main is a three-story brick structure in the vernacular Italianate style, built in 1880 on the campus of Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. Constructed the year after the college's establishment as a normal school for training Lutheran parochial teachers, it represents the first structure associated with German Lutheran higher education in Iowa. The building is five bays wide and four bays deep, topped by a hipped roof with six small gabled dormers and ornamented with a denticular cornice, paneled frieze, corbelled brick window hoods painted white, and cast-iron window sills. Originally designed as a multipurpose facility, it housed classrooms, dormitory space in the attic, faculty quarters on the first floor, and dining and kitchen facilities in the basement. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
