The Stafford Opera House, originally the R. E. Stafford Bank and Opera House, stands at 425 Spring Street in Columbus, Texas. Built in 1886 by cattleman and businessman Robert E. Stafford, it is a brick example of Second Empire architecture designed by Nicholas Joseph Clayton of Galveston, with bank and dry goods space on the first floor and the theater above. Its arched windows and polychromatic brickwork are distinctive, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a Texas Historic Landmark.
