The Old State House in Little Rock, Arkansas, was designed by Gideon Shryock in the Greek Revival style and is the oldest surviving state capitol building west of the Mississippi River. It served as the capitol from 1842 to 1912, when the new Arkansas State Capitol was completed. It hosted the secession convention and the fourth constitutional convention, which guaranteed voting rights for freedmen and established public education. Today it is a museum and a National Historic Landmark.
