The Cathedral of Our Lady in Antwerp, Belgium, is a Roman Catholic cathedral that remains the largest Gothic church in the country. Construction began in 1352 and continued through the sixteenth century, with the first major phase completed in 1521, though the building was never fully finished. Constructed primarily in brick in the Gothic style, the cathedral was designed by multiple architects including Jan and Pieter Appelmans, among others spanning centuries of work. Its soaring tower rises 123 meters above the city. The interior houses significant artworks by Peter Paul Rubens and other Baroque and Renaissance masters such as Otto van Veen, Jacob de Backer, and Marten de Vos. The cathedral's belfry is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site designation shared with the Belfries of Belgium and France, and the entire structure is recognized as a protected monument.
