Osu Castle, also known as Fort Christiansborg, stands on the coast of the Gulf of Guinea in Osu, a neighborhood of Accra, Ghana. Built by Denmark–Norway in the 1660s, it later changed hands among Portugal, the Akwamu, Britain, and finally post-Independence Ghana. Under Danish control it was capital of the Danish Gold Coast and held enslaved people before they were shipped overseas. It was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979 for its testimony to European colonial influence and the Atlantic slave trade.
