The Royal Palace of Capodimonte is a large palazzo on a hilltop just outside Naples, Italy, named for its elevated site, as "Capodimonte" means "top of the hill." Begun in 1742, it was the summer residence and hunting lodge of the Bourbon kings of the Two Sicilies. Its architects included Giovanni Antonio Medrano, Antonio Niccolini, Antonio Canevari and Ferdinando Fuga, and its styles combine Baroque and Neoclassical architecture. The main building now houses the National Museum of Capodimonte, which holds the best collection of Neapolitan paintings and many works from the Farnese Collection.
