The Royal Palace of Caserta is a former royal palace in Caserta, Campania, about 35 kilometres north of Naples in southern Italy. Built by the House of Bourbon-Two Sicilies as the main residence of the Kings of Naples, it was designed by Luigi Vanvitelli in the Baroque style and begun in 1752. It is one of the largest palaces erected in Europe in the 18th century and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.
