Palazzo Caprini
Rome, Italy

Palazzo Caprini was a Renaissance palazzo in Rome's Borgo rione, designed by Donato Bramante around 1510 or a few years earlier. Its five-bay main facade had a rusticated ground floor, let out to shops as was usual in Rome, and an upper floor with paired Doric columns beneath a full entablature. The design became highly influential, providing a model for integrating a rusticated ground storey with arched openings and the classical orders, seen later in Somerset House in London and the Louvre Colonnade. The palazzo was also known as the House of Raphael, since the painter bought it in 1517 and lived there until his death three years later.
