The Palazzo Vecchio is the town hall of Florence, Italy, overlooking the Piazza della Signoria. Begun in 1299 and attributed to Arnolfo di Cambio, it was originally called the Palazzo della Signoria after the ruling body of the Republic of Florence. It took its current name, meaning "Old Palace," when the Medici duke's residence moved across the Arno to the Palazzo Pitti.
