Pannonhalma Archabbey is a Benedictine abbey on a 282-metre hill near the town of Pannonhalma, Hungary, and one of the country's oldest historical monuments. Founded in 996, it is the second largest territorial abbey in the world after Monte Cassino. Its sights include the 13th-century basilica with its crypt, a monumental library of about 400,000 volumes, and a Baroque refectory with trompe-l'œil painting. The abbey and its surroundings were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996.
