The Panthéon is a Neoclassical monument in the Latin Quarter of Paris's 5th arrondissement, standing at the centre of the Place du Panthéon on the Montagne Sainte-Geneviève. Built between 1758 and 1790 to designs by Jacques-Germain Soufflot, it was conceived as a church dedicated to Saint Genevieve, but in 1791 the National Constituent Assembly transformed it into a mausoleum for distinguished French citizens. Its dome owes some of its character to Bramante's Tempietto.
