Parliament House, on Spring Street at the edge of Melbourne's Hoddle Grid, is the meeting place of the Parliament of Victoria. Its Neoclassical design by Knight & Kerr features a grand colonnaded front that dominates the view up Bourke Street. Construction began in 1855, but the building has never been completed, and its planned dome remains one of the city's best-known unbuilt features. From 1901 to 1927 it housed the Parliament of Australia while Melbourne was the temporary national capital. It is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.
