The Pelourinho de Rua is a Manueline pillory located in Rua, Portugal, designated as a National Monument. As a whipping post, it served the judicial and punitive functions typical of medieval and early modern Portuguese towns, where such structures stood as public symbols of authority and justice. The building reflects the Manueline architectural style, the distinctive Portuguese Gothic variant that flourished during the reign of Manuel I in the late 15th and early 16th centuries.
