The Petersburg Historic District covers most of Petersburg, Illinois, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 17, 1976. Its buildings, a mix of homes and commercial structures dating from 1826 to the 1890s, are predominantly Italianate, with Federal, Greek Revival, and Queen Anne examples also present. Several sites link to Abraham Lincoln, including the survey marker where he began surveying the town and the burial place of Ann Rutledge in Oakland Cemetery.
