Pevensey Castle stands at Pevensey in East Sussex, England, on the site of a former Roman Saxon Shore fort known as Anderitum, built around 290 AD. The Normans reoccupied the site in 1066 and built a stone keep and fortification within the Roman walls; although its garrison was twice starved into surrender, it was never successfully stormed. Now a scheduled monument in the care of English Heritage, it is open to visitors.
