The Philadelphia Naval Shipyard was a United States Navy shipyard in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded as a commercial operation in 1776 and becoming the Navy's first yard in 1801. Its original site at Front and Federal Streets was replaced in 1871 by a much larger yard on League Island. After the Navy closed most of its activities in the 1990s, the city acquired the site in 2000 and redeveloped it as The Navy Yard, a mixed-use campus.
