Pigeon Point Lighthouse stands on the Pacific coast of San Mateo County, California, about 5 miles south of Pescadero on State Route 1. Built in 1871 to guide ships along the coast, its 115-foot white masonry tower resembles a typical New England structure and is tied with Point Arena Light as the tallest lighthouse on the West Coast of the United States. The light station is now a California state park, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a California Historical Landmark, and the light remains an active Coast Guard aid to navigation.
