The Plummer House, a five-story English Tudor mansion in Rochester, Minnesota, was designed by architects Ellerby and Round in close collaboration with Dr. Henry Stanley Plummer, a Mayo Clinic partner and founder. Originally called Quarry Hill, the residence sat on a 65-acre estate and sprawled over 300 feet in length, comprising 49 rooms including 10 bathrooms, 9 bedrooms, a ballroom, pipe organ, and five fireplaces across more than 20,000 square feet total. The house was remarkable for its technological innovations—among the first in the city to feature a central vacuum system, underground sprinkler system, gas furnace, heated pool, garage door openers, and intercommunications system. An underground passageway 220 feet long connected the main house to a caretaker's cottage. After Dr. Plummer's death in 1936, his widow Daisy Berkman Plummer, the eldest grandchild of Mayo Clinic founder Dr. William Worrall Mayo, donated the house to the Rochester Art Center in 1971. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, it now operates as a private rental facility and popular wedding venue.
