Pontefract Castle is a castle ruin in the town of Pontefract, West Yorkshire, England, founded in 1070 as a motte-and-bailey castle and now a scheduled monument. King Richard II is thought to have died there, and it was the site of a series of sieges during the 17th-century English Civil War. It is owned by the Duchy of Lancaster and managed by Wakefield Council.
