The Pontifical Basilica of the Holy House stands in Loreto, in the Marches, Italy, and is a Marian shrine built around the house it preserves as the home of the Holy Family. Construction began in 1468, and a long succession of architects, including Giuliano da Maiano, Donato Bramante, and Luigi Vanvitelli, worked on the complex, which blends Gothic and Renaissance architecture. It enshrines the image of Our Lady of Loreto, patroness of air passengers.
