The Providence Athenaeum is an independent, member-supported subscription library in the College Hill neighborhood of Providence, Rhode Island. Formed in 1836 through a merger of the Providence Library Company (founded 1753) and an earlier Providence Athenaeum (founded 1831), it occupies a Greek Revival building designed by William Strickland. The building is open to the public, though only members may borrow from the collection.
