Qasr al-Hayr al-Gharbi is a mudbrick desert palace in Homs Governorate, Syria, about 80 km south-west of Palmyra on the Damascus road. Built in the Umayyad style by the caliph Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik around 727 CE, it is the twin of Qasr al-Hayr al-Sharqi and served as a secondary residence rather than his primary one. Its remains preserve richly decorated floor frescoes, stucco walls and figural reliefs, many now held at the National Museum in Damascus.
